As a first-generation graduate now entering a Juris Doctorate program, applying for scholarships is nothing short of unfamiliar, as I have always had to find extra outside support financially to afford myself an education. Coming from a single-parent household, I am not afforded the opportunity of having a parent being able to fund my education due to having other expenses. Seeking scholarship opportunities, such as the Alford & Clark scholarship opportunity, offers some financial relief, as tackling tuition and outside expenses can be challenging without extra financial support. This scholarship would allow me to focus solely on my academic performance, rather than having to take away focus and use that energy towards a job while in law school to afford my education. It would aid in alleviating the burdens of debt, fees, and any other financial inconvenience, heightening my academic performance and allowing me to excel toward my career goals without the extra financial pressure.
